Louise-Marie

Town & village 8.7 km from 2CV & CO

Louise-Marie is a unique, picturesque little village in the heart of the Flemish Ardennes, on the northern flank of the Muziekberg and on the border between the municipalities of Maarkedal and Ronse. A stone's throw from the Paterberg, it breathes the same typical Flemish Ardennes atmosphere of climbs, woods and fields.

A few remarkable facts about this special village:

  • Named after a queen: the hamlet arose in the first half of the 19th century and is named after Louise-Marie d'Orléans, the first Queen of the Belgians (wife of Leopold I). Tragically, she died at just 38, on the very day the first stone of the local parish church (the church of Our Lady of La Salette) was laid.
  • Beautiful nature: the village sits in rolling countryside at over 110 metres, right against the Muziekbos and close to the Bossenaeremolen windmill. It is a favourite base for walkers thanks to its many quiet lanes and phenomenal views.
